Sexual Safety Charter – new legal duties and actions for all primary care providers
In light of the new legal duties to prevent sexual harassment that come into force in April under the Employment Rights Act 2025, NHS England is asking all primary care providers to take the following steps:
- By 31st March, providers to sign up to the Sexual Safety Charter having completed the self-assurance checklist. Providers to confirm via this national online form
- Detail of the 10 principles of the Sexual Safety Charter and self-assurance checklist
In addition:
- ask members of staff to complete the national e-learning module on sexual safety awareness
- Review chaperoning policies in line with – Improving chaperoning practice in the NHS – key principles and guidance
NHS England have drafted a sexual misconduct policy framework for primary care (and associated toolkit) and are engaging with representative bodies before they intend to formally publish in March.
