Upgrading from FSL3 to FSL3 plus
Abbott have announced, as from 1st April 2026, Free Style Libre 3 (FSL3) will be discontinued and will not be prescribable on the NHS. FSL3 is a high-cost CGM for use in restricted cohorts. To ensure continuity of care, patients currently prescribed FSL3 will be upgraded to FSL3 Plus, switching eligible patients will be done by the specialist teams. Details of eligible patients can be found on page 4 to 6 of the CGM policies (Adults, Paediatrics). The upgrades provide patients with greater sensor accuracy and an extended wear time. Template letters are in place for specialist services to support patient upgrade. Specialist services will inform practices where they have switched patients. Practices will need to ensure that following the switch appropriate changes are made on repeat prescriptions.
