Safeguarding Reminder
Public Health have recently received a report of a solo male attempting to obtain EHC medication on his partner’s behalf. Upon being refused medication by the pharmacist the man was seen outside enlisting the help of a female member of the public who then came back into store claiming that the EHC was for herself. Due to the suspicious nature of this incident EHC was not supplied.
Please be mindful of the risks around domestic abuse, sexual abuse and trafficking that this scenario presents. EHC guidance is clear that a consultation must take place directly with the individual seeking EHC. This is to ensure they have the capacity to consent and that informed consent is obtained appropriately. The consultation is a key part of the clinical assessment and must be conducted face-to-face with the person requesting the medication. Please use this consultation to mitigate any risks around abuse and coercion which may apply when supplying EHC.
In the event of any suspicious activity, please maintain detailed records of the incident including date, time and physical descriptions. Please also ensure that Hertfordshire County Council are notified. If this were to re-occur, having a record could help in identifying patterns and potentially obtaining contact details to raise a safeguarding concern if needed.
